An armed man has been arrested outside Buckingham Palace in London.

The Metropolitan Police say he is being held on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and assault on police.

The man was stopped just after 8.30pm at the mall outside the palace in possession of a knife.

Two police officers suffered minor injuries to their arm while trying to detain the man.

The London Ambulance Service were called and they were treated at the scene.

No others persons have been reported injured.

Police say officers remain on the scene and enquiries are ongoing.
