WATCH: Shane Coleman meets the cast of Detroit

John Boyega, Hannah Murray and Will Poulter discuss the movie's contemporary importance

Speaking to Newstalk Breakfast's Shane Coleman in London, John Boyega says his latest film, Detroit, feels extremely timely.

The movie focuses on events during the summer of 1967, when rioting and civil unrest began to tear apart the city of Detroit.

Subsequent reports of gunshots prompted the Detroit Police Department, the Michigan State Police and the Michigan Army National Guard to search and seize an annex of the nearby Algiers Motel.

Several policemen forcefully and viciously interrogated guests of the motel. By the end of the night, three unarmed men were dead.

Newstalk Breakfast's Shane Coleman met the cast and discussed how important the movie is in light of the current political climate in the US when it comes to race relations.
