Thursday's weather: Rain to spread from the Atlantic this afternoon

Today

Today will be windy and mostly cloudy in Connacht and west Ulster, with persistent rain spreading from the Atlantic, turning heavy in some parts and extending further eastwards across Ulster and into parts of north Leinster during the afternoon and evening.

Munster and the rest of Leinster will be brighter and mainly dry, with just scattered showers.

Maximum temperatures 15 to 20 Celsius, in mostly moderate southwesterly winds, fresh to strong in the west and northwest.

Tonight

Tonight will be mainly dry in Munster and south Leinster, with a few clear spells and just scattered showers.

Cloudier further north, with outbreaks of rain, mainly in Connacht, Ulster and north Leinster, where rain will be persistent at times. A few mist patches may develop.

Minimum temperatures 10 to 13 Celsius, in mostly moderate southwesterly winds, backing southerly and decreasing light to moderate.
