Swift counter-sued DJ David Mueller and won
US singer Taylor Swift has been awarded a symbolic one dollar after winning her legal battle with a DJ who sexually assaulted her.
DJ David Mueller was suing the singer, claiming her team got him fired from his job by making false accusations.
However Swift counter-sued and won.
Judge William J Martinez dismissed Mueller's accusation against Swift on Friday.
She says she will use her privileged position to help 'those whose voices should also be heard' after winning her sexual assault case.
Swift said Mueller had groped her at a concert in 2013 by grabbing her bottom beneath her skirt during a photo shoot.
Swift cried and hugged her mother as the verdicts were read in US District Court in Denver on Monday.
The jury of six women and two men deliberated for less than four hours.
In a statement released after the ruling, Swift thanked the judge and her legal team "for fighting for me and anyone who feels silenced by a sexual assault, and especially anyone who offered their support throughout this four-year ordeal and two-year long trial process.
"I acknowledge the privilege that I benefit from in life, in society and in my ability to shoulder the enormous cost of defending myself in a trial like this.
"My hope is to help those whose voices should also be heard.
"Therefore, I will be making donations in the near future to multiple organisations that help sexual assault victims defend themselves".
Her lawyer Douglas Baldridge says the verdict sends a powerful message.
"It takes people like Taylor, wonderful people like Taylor who we all know, to stand up and draw these lines.
"It gives courage and inspiration to all people, not just women, but to all people to have the courage to draw lines and to know where those lines are: the lines of mutual respect between people".
