Footage has emerged of a man in a wheelchair clinging on to the back of a car as it drives down the road.

CCTV footage shows 28-year-old William MacPherson talking to 20-year-old Michael Ward outside a bar in North Yorkshire in the UK - before grabbing on to the back of his car as it pulls away.

The footage shows Mr MacPherson holding on tight as the car drives around a corner and down several roads.

He then lets go near a McDonald's restaurant, while the car pulls over in front of him.

Mr Ward pleaded guilty to dangerous driving at Harrogate Magistrates' Court on July 20.

He was banned from driving for 20 months, ordered to complete 200 hours of unpaid work, fined £85 costs and told to pay an £85 victim surcharge.

Meanwhile, Mr MacPherson admitted deliberately holding on to the vehicle and was fined £154 and ordered to pay £60 in costs.

Traffic constable Rob Roberts criticised the pair for acting "selfishly."

"They paid no regard to the safety of other road users or pedestrians and chose to act in a dangerous manner," he said.

"I hope the sentence that has been handed to them teaches a lesson to both them, and others, that reckless behaviour will not be tolerated on our roads."
