Thousands of music fans have descended on Dublin’s Marley Park for the first night of Longitude Festival 2017.

All entrances into Longitude are now flowing freely after fans warned of difficulty getting into the venue this evening as teeming crowds of people arrived simultaneously.

A number of festival goers shared images of jam-packed queues on social media – with 35,000 people expected to attend the event.

Earlier this week revellers were urged to arrive two hours early - as there would be extra security checks in place.

Promoters MCD have said there were no injuries in the queues - adding that security officers have been managing the crowds.

"Due to additional security measures implemented, this has led to delays for some fans upon entering the site this evening,” the company said in a statement issued on behalf of Longitude.

“Delays had been anticipated and indeed well highlighted in advance by email to ticket purchasers, carried extensively by national/local media and via the promoter's own communication channels.

“Unfortunately, such increased security measures are unavoidable and in the interest of everyone's safety.

The company said gates opened at 1:30pm adding that fans were advised to allow plenty of additional time to arrive at the venue.

Three day party

The Festival is running over three days this weekend, with acts like Stormzy, The Weeknd and Mumford & Sons headlining.

Festival Republic spokesperson Ange Golliger said attendees should think about how they are getting home, make use of the extra public transport that has been arranged - and be prepared for changeable weather across the weekend:

“Check the weather and dress accordingly for the weather,” she said. “It has been very mixed this week already, we have had some rain, we have had some glorious sunshine so just bare that in mind when you are dressing for the event.”

Gardaí have released an interactive map showing the best way to travel to and from the event.

600 stewards and 250 Garda will oversee the security operation over the three day event.
