The woman whose remains were found in the Wicklow Mountains has been named locally as Patricia O’Connor.

It is believed the woman aged in her 60s had been killed in the Rathfarnham area of south Dublin and her body parts scattered.

A search is continuing there following the discovery at the weekend.

A man in his 30s was arrested in Wexford and is being questioned about her murder.

Investigating gardaí are appealing to members of the public who were in the general area of Military Road/Laragh in Wicklow in the recent past and who may have seen anything suspicious or unusual to contact them.

This local woman lived close to the victim.

“I just know her to say ‘hello’ and just walking past there.

“I was disgusted – I couldn’t believe someone you know that happened (to).

“Very shocked – can’t believe it happened in a nice quiet area”.
