A Malaysia Airlines flight from Melbourne was forced to turn back after a disruptive passenger tried to enter the cockpit.

The flight was due to arrive in Kuala Lumpur at 5.30am, but was turned back after the captain was alerted to the passenger by cabin crew.

It landed at Melbourne Airport at 11.40pm local time and was kept in a remote bay while security services were called.

The disruptive passenger was apprehended by airport security, Malaysia Airlines said.
