The US President's daughter benefits from boycott backlash...
'Ivanka Trump by Ivanka Trump' has rocketed to the top of Amazon's bestselling perfume chart, as Brand Ivanka looks set to come through the recent stink over the likes of Burlington and Nordstrom dropping its products smelling of roses.
US President Donald Trump's angry tweet, lambasting Nordstrom for discontinuing sales of his daughter's merchandise, had initially fuelled public calls for an Ivanka boycott but an online backlash has boosted sales of certain items over the past week.
My daughter Ivanka has been treated so unfairly by @Nordstrom. She is a great person -- always pushing me to do the right thing! Terrible!— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) February 8, 2017
As it stands, Ivanka Trump perfume still occupies the top three spots in the 'Women's Eau de Parfum' section of the Amazon website, with only Jennifer Lopez's 'Still' offering much in the way of competition.
Following Trump's victory in the US presidential election in November, critics of the business magnate-turned-politician launched a #GrabYourWallet campaign to boycott all merchandise sold by the Trump family's businesses.
Nordstrom responded to Trump's February attack by stating that the decision to cut Ivanka's fashion brand from its line-up was purely "based on performance".
Nordstrom said in a statement:
"We've got thousands of brands – more than 2,000 offered on the site alone. Reviewing their merit and making edits is part of the regular rhythm of our business. Each year we cut about 10% and refresh our assortment with about the same amount. In this case, based on the brand's performance, we've decided not to buy it for this season."
Other US stores following suit included Neiman Marcus, Belk, Shopstyle, Jet and Gilt. Meanwhile, online Canadian store Shoes.com dropped her footwear with the tweet:
"We understand and your voices have been heard. We have removed the products from our website."
