#CES2017: Samsung partner with Under Armour for their latest wearables

And there's some good news for owners of older Gear wearables too

Samsung was one of the first companies to release a smartwatch in Ireland and the tech giant has just announced an expansion of their line of wearables at CES in Las Vegas.

Samsung Electronics unveiled its collaboration with Under Armour, the sports apparel brand, to deliver new fitness tracking devices. 

“This collaboration brings together the very best of Samsung wearable technology with the unmatched sports performance of the Under Armour brand,” said, Younghee Lee, Executive Vice President of Global Marketing and Wearable Business, Mobile Communications at Samsung Electronics. “Fitness enthusiasts will have a thrilling experience when it comes to the integration of practical design and intelligent applications for sports related activities.”

There's some good news for owners of Gear Fit 2, Gear S2 and the new Gear S3 devices, as Under Armour has confirmed it has a number of fitness apps available for these wearables.  

Design:

The Gear S3 Frontier and the Gear S3 Classic look similar to a more traditional watch, but with smart features.  

Speaking at the launch of the wearables, Younghee Lee, Samsung’s Executive Vice President of Global Marketing, Mobile Communications Business, emphasized the company’s drive to add new value to the smartwatch experience by creating pieces that are watches, first and foremost. 

 

Mark Notton, Head of Product Management of Samsung Electronics Europe, discussed some of the technological innovations introduced in the Gear S3, including an Always On Display, which adds to the device’s “real watch” aesthetic. Other functions he touched upon included its enhanced Samsung Pay functionality, standalone GPS and sensors that allow for improved usability, and expanded ecosystem of compatible apps. Also mentioned were the Gear S3’s bigger, longer-lasting battery which can provide three to four days of use on a single charge.
