Here we go! Super Mario Run now available on iOS

Nintendo's classic title comes to a mobile platform for the first time

It’s been the dream of gamers for years, and now it’s finally here. The first official Super Mario game from Nintendo on iOS is available now.

The game, Super Mario Run, was unveiled at Apple’s iPhone 7 event in September by Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto. It’s the first time you’ll be able to play as the Italian plumber on a device not made by Nintendo.

It’s an endless runner game, meaning all you have to do it tap the screen to make Mario jump over obstacles and collect coins. Think of it like the popular Temple Run or Flappy Bird games, except now you’re playing as one of video game history’s most popular characters.

The app is free to download from the App Store, but will cost you €9.99 in-app to have full access to the game. It’s a one off payment and may seem a little high, but Nintendo were set on giving you full access straight away rather than multiple little in-app purchases like many freemium games have now.

It’s also going to require a constant internet connection. That’s unusual for a game of this type that will live entirely on your phone, but Nintendo say it’s for fear of “content piracy”. They will be able to monitor that the copies of the app being played were legitimately purchased and not pirated, ensuring “the software is secure”.

Super Mario Run is available in the iOS App Store for iPhone and iPad now for a €9.99 in-app purchase, and will be coming to Android later in 2017.
