There are only some 2,500 homes throughout the country that qualify for the first-time buyers scheme.

According to Daft.ie, Dublin has the bulk of the properties with 643, followed by Kildare on 344 and Meath at 318.

The number of eligible homes decreases the further away you move from Dublin.

To qualify for the scheme houses must be new builds and worth less than €600,000.

Thousands of consumers will begin their Christmas shop today.

Black Friday has hit Irish retailers - with bargain hunters able to avail of huge discounts thanks to the initiative which began in the US.

It's expected that €100m will be spent by shoppers in Ireland today - both in store and online.

Door-busting sales in physical stores are becoming a thing of the past however - as shoppers continue to migrant online.

Currys PC World expects 90% of its sales to be online today.

Intel Ireland is hoping to bring a $4bn chip-manufacturing facility to Ireland - its lodging a planning application with Kildare County Council.

The company is currently choosing a location for the plant, Ireland is competing with a number of locations including Israel, according to The Irish Times.

It already received planning permission for a project on the site - but the new planning application features a revised version of these plans, moving the facility away from the N4 road and reducing the size of the building.

Lufthansa flights are being grounded again today - due to an ongoing strike by pilots.

Today's disruption will see eight services cancelled in and out of Dublin airport.

It's pilot's 14th strike action since April 2014 - in their row over increased pay.

Passengers intending to travel are advised to check the airline's website before going to the airport.
