GALLERY: Mary Robinson is selling her €2.75m lakeside estate

Former President Mary Robinson is selling her 113 acre Mayo estate for a market price of €2.75m.

Robinson and her husband Nick purchased the impressive Massbrook House in 1994, while Robinson was resident in Áras an Uachtaráin.

The couple are now ready to leave Mayo for a permanent move to Dublin to be closer to their children and grandchildren. They are currently renting a property in Sandymount.

In a statement to the Irish Times, the Robinsons explained their decision:

"As with many other couples in their seventies, it is now time to downsize, and this process has begun with the gifting of Mary’s archives to Mayo. We hope that whoever buys Massbrook will find, as we did, a haven of peace and tranquility."

As well as peace and tranquility, the new owner will have easy access to Lough Conn, as the estate is located on the lake's shores.

A manor house has stood at Massbrook since approximately 1780, with the original abode still standing as a ruin on the property.

The current 630sq m home was designed by Belfast architect Sir Thomas Drew and constructed in 1890.

The estate is for sale through Sherry FitzGerald Country Homes.
