The co-founders of Airbnb have agreed to give away most of their fortunes to charity.

The three co-founders, Brian Chesky, Joe Gebbia and Nathan Blecharczyk, who set up the room-renting website, are said to be worth $3.3bn each.

They've joined Microsoft founder Bill Gates' Giving Pledge drive which he launched with his wife Melinda Gates and billionaire Warren Buffet in 2010.

The money will go to the Gates Foundation which is focused on major health issues including malaria, polio, and family planning programmes.

"This new group joining the Giving Pledge is incredibly thoughtful about their desire to give back and help solve the world’s toughest challenges through philanthropy," Bill Gates said in a statement.

"Over the long-term, the Giving Pledge hopes to help shift the social norms of philanthropy toward giving more, giving sooner and giving smarter," the fund continued.

The fund has 154 members in 16 countries, it is believed that each member is worth at least $1bn.
