'Dragons Den' storage firm announces 100 new jobs in Ireland and Britain

Sixty new posts will be created here in sales, marketing and logistics

Some 100 new jobs are to be created across Ireland and the UK over the next 18 months.

Specialists in discrete under-stair storage Smart Storage is creating 60 jobs in Ireland in the area of sales, marketing, logistics, operations and manufacturing.

While 40 of the jobs will also be created in the UK. The company was a successful 2012 'Dragons Den' entrant.

Paul Jacob, managing director of Smart Storage, said: "What started as a nice storage idea is now a multi-million euro business. We have grown considerably since 2011, when, in our first year, we had a turnover of €110,000 with one person in the business".

"Winning our investment on Dragons Den helped to accelerate the company’s expansion and we have grown the business to a turnover this year of €3.5m and 50 people employed".

The company says they are on target to sell over €7.5m products next year. In order to meet these targets they are taking on 100 new employees.

Smart Storage supplies and installs home storage solutions, with the company's head office based in Co Wicklow.

In the UK, the company has five satellite bases; Bristol, Coventry, Manchester, Stevenage and Crawley.

As part of its growth plans, the the company will add a further three UK bases: two in London and one in north-east England.

Mr Jacob told Breakfast Business here on Newstalk they have even larger expansion plans in their sights.
