A standard room at the new student-only development in Dublin costs €235 per week
The company behind a new 447 bed student-only digs in Dublin has insisted the development is providing good value for money.
Hines has just opened its third student-only development on Dublin’s Dorset Street – with a standard room costing €235 per week.
Hines Europe director of operations, Tom Rix said the price includes bills as well as a wide range of facilities:
“When you add up the broken down elements of the bill - the contents insurance, the high speed broadband [...] and the all-inclusive facilities that are on site - we think we do represent value for money,” he said.
Four new student accommodation developments - providing space for 1700 people - are expected to open in the capital by next year.
The government has estimated that Ireland’s student population will rise to 193,000 by 2024 – with approximately 25,000 students currently in need of somewhere to stay.
The ‘Rebuilding Ireland’ plan aims to alleviate the pressure these students put on the private rented sector by housing them in specialised developments.
Trinity Student Siun from Dundalk said he was finding it hard to get student accommodation – before accepting a place in Hines’ Binary Hub ‘Aparto.’
He feels the accommodation does provide value for money.
“I think, for the cost, it is pretty much justified,” he said. “It does cover bills, electricity, heating, a study room [and] a gym – so everything is covered,” he said.

The new Aparto at Dorset Street features ensuite rooms, study areas, a games room, cinema room, gym, outdoor tree-lined courtyards and a roof garden.
Hines’ student accommodation portfolio comprises of 14 developments across the UK and Ireland.
