The Real Madrid star was inconsolable after injuring his knee in the first half, but he was once again seen with tears streaming down his face at the end of extra-time after his side beat France to win their first major international trophy.

The goal came from an unlikely source in the form of Eder, a player who was on loan at Swansea earlier this season but failed to click properly, before earning his place in the final Portugal squad as he put in some impressive performances at Lille.

The two teams somewhat canceled each other out for the majority of the game, with chances few and far between, and the game looked to be headed towards penalties before the substitute popped up with what proved to be the decisive goal.

After losing on home soil back in 2004, the Portuguese team knows how much this defeat will hurt for France, but that disappointment all those years ago perhaps made Sunday's victory all the sweeter for the players who had been involved, and certainly for their star man Cristiano Ronaldo.
