Ireland begin their Euro 2016 campaign on Monday night
With Ireland's Euro 2016 opening game just two days away, defender Shane Duffy will be quietly thrilled to hear Roy Keane's remarks about his chances of taking a starting jersey.
Speaking earlier today, Roy Keane seemed to be in giddy form as the build-up continues for the game against Sweden. And one player who received a stunning report from the former Irish captain, was Blackburn's Shane Duffy.
When asked about Duffy's chances of making the team, Keane said that his form has brought him a long way ion recent months:
"I think he's got a great chance of making the starting 11. He's a big strong player, got loads to learn. He's by no means the finished article, but he's given himself a chance. A few months ago, it was touch and go whether he was gonna make the squad."
"The fact is, he's gone out and he's played games regularly at club level. I think that's been a huge plus for him."
Keane added that it's a player's duty to give the manager headaches over who to pick in the starting 11, meaning Duffy is ticking all the boxes in Keane's eyes.
