Northern Ireland name a 27-man squad ahead of Euro 2016

The squad will be trimmed after their friendly against Belarus

Northern Ireland have named a 27-man squad ahead of the pre-Euro 2016 friendly against Belarus. 

Michael O'Neill's side are preparing for their first ever appearance at the European Championships this summer. It is Northern Ireland's first major tournament since the World Cup in 1986. 

The game against Belarus, is the team's only game before the final 23-man squad is to be named. Northern Ireland also face Slovakia on June 4th, eight days before their opening game against Poland in Nice. 

Five players make the 27-man squad that play in the Premier League, with the majority coming from Championship and League 1 clubs.

The game against Belarus takes place in Belfast on May 27th. Four days later, Belarus travel south to play in Cork against the Republic of Ireland.
