Health Minister Leo Varadkar was one of a number of canvassers that stumbled upon an armed robbery in Castleknock in Dublin yesterday.

Mr Varadkar was campaigning in his home constituency of Dublin West, when he saw two armed raiders run from the Spar shop in Carpenterstown.

One of the men ran right past the minister.

Jack Chambers of Fianna Fáil and Roderic O'Gorman of the Green Party also happened upon the scene.

Councillor O'Gorman told Today FM one of the men was armed with a machete.
