Fianna Fáil's leader says young people need help when buying homes.

Micheál Martin was reacting to comments by Minister of State Paudie Coffey who said Fianna Fáil's plan to divert banking authority away from the Central Bank to the Minister for Finance would be disastrous.

Minister Coffey said Fianna Fáil has learned nothing from the economic crash.

However speaking in Roscrea this morning, Fianna Fáil Leader Micheál Martin said the Government's record on housing is abysmal:

Fianna Fáil launched their housing policy on Friday, promising they would build 150,000 new homes by 2021, including 45,000 social housing units, if elected.

Other policies included the raising of rent supplement in Dublin, a new Department of Housing, Planning and Local Government, and a First Time Buyers Savings Scheme.
