Homelessness campaigners are concerned that the reduction of property tax will have a knock-on negative effect on the housing crisis.
It comes as a public meeting, organised by IMPACT to address the issue, was held in Dublin today.
Organisers say that by reducing taxes, budgets available at local government level will also be reduced.
IMPACT organiser Joe O'Connor says public services should be rising to the top of the agenda now that the economy has started to recover:
Tánaiste Joan Burton and campaigner Father Peter McVerry were among the key speakers that attended today's meeting. Reports suggested that the Táiniste was heckled when discussing the rent supplement during a questions and answers session.
The event is part of IMPACT's homelessness campaign which has so far seen over 100 Dublin local election candidates pledge to protect homeless service budgets during the current local government term, which ends in 2019.
