If you’re an Aer Lingus passenger, soon a short-haul journey will no longer mean you’re going without a connection for the duration of your flight.

The airline’s owner IAG has announced that it will start to provide WiFi across all of its short-haul fleets from 2017 on.

Customers will be able to avail of a 4G broadband network connection on board, thanks to a new deal with satellite company Inmarsat.

It will be available on British Airways flights in summer 2017, with the service rolled out on the likes of Aer Lingus, Iberia and Vueling from later on that year.

IAG has already started bringing connectivity to its long-haul flights, and promised earlier this year that 90% of its airline fleet would be equipped by 2019.

Its Dublin-born chief executive Willie Walsh has commented:

“Connectivity is essential because it’s what our customers demand and IAG will be the first European airline group to offer high-quality air to ground WiFi on short-haul flights.”
