It’s well-known that the idea women don’t watch porn is a myth, but exactly which type of sexy scenes appeal to the female population might surprise you.

There’s a stereotype that men love lesbian porn, when in fact it’s the sixth most popular search on the site among that demographic. Women, however, are 900% more likely to search for it, according to website Pornhub’s latest data, with gay male sex in a close second place.

While the research doesn’t differentiate between gay, straight or bisexual women who are searching these terms, the numbers are so high that it's clear many heterosexual women are looking at it, too.

So, if your female and lesbian porn is in your browser history, does that mean you're actually attracted to females and want to try a same-sex hook-up?

It’s a lot more complicated than that, according to sex therapist Megan Fleming, PhD. “Porn is a safe way to realise what turns you on, but it doesn’t necessarily mean you want to do it in real life,” she points out.

Fantasy is a huge part of what is appealing about porn. Plus, lesbian porn is more likely to feature a sensual vibe, sex toys, and extended foreplay and less likely to show degrading or exploitative situations that are more the norm in porn that's targeted to heterosexual men.

“In lesbian porn, there really is a focus on oral sex and clitoral stimulation as the main event,” Fleming explains. And since this is typically appeals to women's sexual needs, it's little wonder this is what they like to see on screen.

It’s also a common complaint that male partners don’t take enough time to engage in foreplay before sex, so lesbian porn can also be a gentle ‘hint, hint, nudge, nudge’ if you're watching it with your partner.
