'I am not convinced that there is enough contingency planning being done at government level on the Brexit referendum'

That is the warning coming from Fine Gael's Dublin MEP Brian Hayes, as he spoke to George on the Right Hook this evening.

While he was quick to say he doesn't blame the present Government for not being quite on top of it, due to the current stalemate in forming a Government, Hayes is adamant that Ireland needs to prepare for the worst.

"We joined with the U.K, because we couldn't have joined without them. The question must now be asked honestly; were they to leave now, could we stay in the EU without them?"

George, of course couldn't let the Dublin MEP go without asking him about the current Dáil stalemate in forming a Government.

Hayes explained that he knew the numbers dictated that a Fine Gael/Fianna Fáil grand coalition was the only way a stable majority Government could have been formed after the Election, something acting Taoiseach Enda Kenny has tried to form, but he maintains that a deal will be done somewhere in order to form a Government, and he's sure it will be soon.
