Warning over phishing e-mail supposedly from the Supreme Court

The Courts Service has issued a warning over a false phishing e-mail, purporting to be from the Supreme Court office in Dublin.

It says several law firms - particularly based in Northern Ireland - are reporting they are receiving the e-mail.

The e-mail refers to a changed or new Statutory Instrument, and asks users to open a PDF attachment and to provide certain details by this Friday.

This attachment attempts to divert the user to an external website outside the jurisdiction.

The Courts Service says it has not been issued from the Supreme Court Office or from the Courts Service.

All receivers are advised not to provide any details or answer the mail.

The Courts Service says its IT people are examining the mail, and will forward it to the gardaí.

It has the subject line: 'Supreme Court (S.I. No691/2017)) - Immediate Action Required'.

The Law Society and the Bar Council have also been informed.
