The superhero is the final character to be introduced before 'The Defenders' crossover event later this year
While getting the gang together on the big screen has been a decade-long affair for Marvel, its partnership with Netflix to assemble the B-team has been rather swift. First starting with Daredevil in April 2015, March 17th will see the arrival of Iron Fist, rounding off the four heroes who will form The Defenders at some point later on this year.
Netflix has just released the first official trailer for Iron Fist, which sees Game of Thrones alum Finn Jones take on the role of Danny Rand, who reappears in New York 15 years after being presumed dead in a plane crash that killed both his parents.
The 13 one-hour episodes will chronicle the billionaire’s mysterious return as he tries to rebuild his family’s legacy by day, and by night uses the supernatural powers and martial arts skills he’s picked up along the way to clean up the city.
The trailer also shows Rosario Dawson reappearing as Claire Temple, the superhero-tending nurse who’s featured in Daredevil, Jessica Jones, and Luke Cage, tying together the continuity of the Marvel Cinematic Universe across the small screen. All four heroes will team up to star in the eight-episode crossover event, where they will be pitted against Sigourney Weaver in an as-yet unannounced villain role.
Netflix also intends to launch a vehicle for Jon Bernthal’s The Punisher character, who appeared in the second season of Daredevil.
Co-starring Jessica Henwick, David Wenham, Jessica Stroup, and Tom Pelphrey, all episodes of Iron Fist will be available to stream on St Patrick’s Day. Take a look at the trailer in full below:
