The actor last saw the prop when filming 1983's 'Return of the Jedi'
While we may, and spoiler alert here for anyone who has yet to see the end of The Force Awakens, have seen Luke Skywalker being offered his lightsaber, it turns out that the one on screen was not the actual one used by Mark Hamill during the original trilogy. But now a serious Star Wars collector has loaned the prop back out to a new Hamill-starring TV show so the actor can once again get to grips with the weapon he last wielded in 1983’s Return of the Jedi.
In a clip from his new show Pop Culture Quest, Hamill is offered the grip of the real McCoy, a lightsaber prop used a number of times throughout the Star Wars saga. The video reveals that it is the same one that Alec ‘Obi-Wan’ Guinness used in a number of scenes in A New Hope, making the whole thing a treat for superfans and anoraks of the beloved sci-fi series.
Hamill, who has become a darling of social media since Disney bought out the franchise and JJ Abrams reassembled the cast, lights up brighter than the Jedi weapon when he sees the prop, offering some behind-the-scenes titbits on how the special effects were produced on set.
