The spud's influence on the world dates back 8000 years
Baked or boiled, friend or mashed, the humble potato is truly the world’s greatest food source. Easy to grow, nutritious, and a staple addition to any dinner plate, the potato also developed over time to become a significant cog in the forward-moving wheels of society. The modern world as we know it would be nothing without the spud, or so claims TED-Ed.
In a short animated video, the history boffins trace the route of the potato from the Incan empire that first cultivated the tuber 8,000 years ago right up to the Industrial Revolution, saying that were it not for the potato, who knows what the world would look like now?
