Starring David Tennant and Olivia Colman, the third and final season of the show is coming soon
ITV has released the first trailer for the third and final series of its award-winning crime drama Broadchurch, promising more misery for the residents of the sunny seaside town.
Starring Olivia Colman and David Tennant as Detectives Miller and Hardy, the first two seasons of the BAFTA-winning whodunit focused on the murder of young Danny Latimer and the effect of his death on the people in the town. Season three will shift the drama towards a sexual assault investigation.
Along with Colman and Tennant, returning cast members include Arthur Darvill as vicar Paul Coates, as well as Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan as Beth and Mark Latimer, the grieving parents of the murdered boy.
New characters include former Coronation Street star Julie Hesmondalgh as the victim of the assault and Lenny Henry as one of the suspects.
“Broadchurch’s final chapter looks at the emotional cost to all of those involved and the irreparable damage to friendships and relationships,” said an ITV statement.
Chris Chibnall, the creator of Broadchurch, was recently announced as the new showrunner on the BBC’s long-running sci-fi show Doctor Who, and will be jumping ship from ITV to replace Steven Moffat when he steps down.
Broadchurch season three will screen in Ireland on TV3 later in the year.
