Voting in the general election has finished for the day. Over 550 candidates are contesting 157 Dáil seats.
Over 3.3 million people had the right to vote at polling stations across the country. The polls closed at 10.00pm tonight.
Turnout had been higher than usual in some urban areas, but earlier reports were lower outside of the large towns.
Cork City registered a turnout of between 30% and 35%, while parts of Longford have recorded only a 5% turnout.
The party leaders have already been casting their votes.
One seat has already been filled - with the automatic election of previous Ceann Comhairle, Seán Barrett.
In Dublin, the guards had been called because some candidates are reported to have broken canvassing rules.
No posters are allowed within 50 metres of polling centres on vote day.
Returning officer for Dublin, James Barry, spoke to Newstalk Lunchtime.
Sinead McNamara is the returning office for Cork county.
Information from the Department of the Environment shows the numbers of people entitled to vote on the islands where voting took place yesterday.
On Inishfree, just four people are registered. The population on our remote islands comes to only 2,583 people.
