A 53-year-old woman has been revealed as the winner of one of the biggest jackpots in US lotto history.

Mavis Wanczyk from Massachusetts had the winning numbers for the August 28th draw.

The jackpot was a massive US$758,700,000.00 (€642,920,183).

Officials said it is the largest single-ticket Powerball prize in US history.

Wanczyk says the first thing she wants to do is sit back and relax.

The hospital worker says she has called work to let them know she will not be back.

US lottery officials, quoted by the Associated Press, say she chose to take a lump sum payment of US$480m (€406m) - or US$336m (€284m) after taxes.

The numbers drawn were 6, 7, 16, 23 and 26.

Speaking to reporters at Massachusetts State Lottery headquarters, Wanczyk says her success is still sinking in.

"Last night it was kind of like I... didn't realise I won.

"Today as I'm driving here I'm still like 'this isn't true, this can't be'.

"Now it's like 'I am a winner.' And I'm scared, but I'll be OK".
