A woman in her early 70s has died after being hit by lorry while crossing a road at Townspark, Carrick-on-Suir.

The accident happened at around 1pm on the Limerick to Waterford Road and she was pronounced dead at the scene.

The road is currently closed for a forensic collision examination and local diversions are in place. It is expected that the road will remain closed for a number of hours.

Separately a women in her 80s was fatally injured after being struck by a car on the Southbound carriageway of the N11 close to Cabinteely Village this afternoon.

The incident happened shortly before 1pm and the woman was pronounced dead at the seen.

The N11 Southbound carriageway is currently closed at Cornelscourt to facilitate Garda Forensic Collision Investigators and diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and anyone with information is asked to contact The Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666111 or any Garda Station.
