Management and unions at the transport company are meeting at the Labour Court tonight
The Transport Minister Shane Ross says Bus Éireann is in a critical financial situation.
The public transport company lost more than €5m last year, and similar figures are expected for 2016.
Mr Ross says he hopes clarity on company's future will come from a meeting between management and unions at the Labour Court tonight.
Minister Ross said: "What they're looking at now is to find a solution to what is a critical situation in the finances."
Earlier this year, the National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) accused Bus Éireann of dropping “an industrial relations bombshell” after it emerged the company is reviewing its Expressway routes with a view to restructuring the service.
Last week, the union warned there is a real danger of swathes of the country being left without services if Bus Éireann moves ahead with the plans.
The union said “as a last resort” it could consider industrial action.
