University of Nebraska Omaha student Shannon Workman was in the middle of being booted out of her sorority when she decided to beat the panel to the punch and leave of her own accord.

The folks involved in the running of the Chi Omega sorority were dismissing Workman for posting a photo on the dating app wearing a t-shirt with the Chi Omega symbol on it.

Talking to Buzzfeed, Workman said: “They just don’t think that Chi Omega should be involved with that site. [...] I do stand up for Tinder because I don’t think there’s anything wrong with it. Some people use it for hookups but I don’t, and a lot of great things happen through Tinder.”

Hearing about her story, Tinder CEO and co-founder Sean Rad decided to reach out to Workman, and offered to pay for her senior year in college, as well as offfering her an internship in their company.

Rad stated: “It’s easy to give in and give up. We think what Shannon did sends a very empowering message to young women and college students, which is actually one of Tinder’s largest audiences. Don’t conform, don’t let people tell you your beliefs are wrong just because it’s not the same as their beliefs.”
