One man suffered serious injuries and is receiving treatment at Letterkenny University Hospital.

The area has been sealed off for a forensic examination.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses or anybody with information to contact Letterkenny garda station on 074-916-7100 or the Garda Confidential Line 1800-666-111.

Rory Mooney is editor of the Letterkenny Post, and told Newstalk Lunchtime locals are in shock.

Moya Murdock of the Road Safety Authority (RSA) told Newstalk Breakfast that 10 people have been killed on our roads over the last seven days.

"First of all my condolences to the family and friends who have been devastated by this latest crash on the roads," she said.

"Last night just highlights how vulnerable people are out there, and how quickly things can change in a blink of an eye.

"We are seeing a significant increase this year on the roads - it is up 16 on last year, 105 people killed so far this year. So really we need a lot more work to try and reverse this trend."
