Broadcaster TV3 says thousands of applicants from all across Ireland have applied to appear on 'Ireland’s Got Talent'.

TV3 says it will be the biggest showcase of performing talent ever staged here.

"The production team have been overwhelmed by the volume of applicants seeking their moment in front of the judges and a shot at the title", it says.

The winner will also get €50,000 and a prime-time Christmas TV special.

TV3 says their IGT team will embark on "a relentless search for the nation’s greatest undiscovered talent" - from the bizarre to the brilliant and everything in-between.

Commenting on the volume of applicants, judge Louis Walsh said: "We always knew we'd get a great response once we launched but even I've been blown away by the numbers that have applied.

"I now know more than ever that this is going to be a really great series...which is great as I promised Simon Cowell it would be!".

Joining Louis on the judging panel are Michelle Visage from the 'RuPaul's Drag Race', actress Denise Van Outen and comedian Jason Byrne.

Lucy Kennedy will host the show, which is due to air in early 2018.
