Burton says she cannot put a date on plans for two years of free pre-school education

Joan Burton says the issue would have to be negotiated as part of the next programme for government.

Last night at the Labour Conference in Co Kerry, Joan Burton said a second year of free pre-school education would be a major part of Labour's next election platform.

Met Éireann is warning of snow showers until Wednesday

A yellow weather warning for snow and ice has been issued for the whole of the country.

It says a cold airmass from Canada is bringing the downpours.

In the west and north, several centimetres are expected to fall over hills, with a few centimetres likely at low levels.
