Yesterday it was revealed that the Government is seeking a meeting with International Airlines Group (IAG) in relation to its bid to take-over Aer Lingus.

The Cabinet has been briefed by the Transport Minister about the bid that values the former national flag carrier at €2.55 per share or €1.3bn.

An inter-departmental working group on the sale of State assets has been re-activated to examine the bid.

Minister Paschal Donohoe stated that “As I have said throughout this issue, what is very important to the government is to make the decision that is in the long-term interest of our economy and country,” he added.

This morning, Ivan Yates and Shane Coleman discussed the bid by IAG for Aer Lingus with Ivan pointing out that the days of air transport being dictated by Government are over.

He also asked a question that had not been raised by the Government yesterday: what is the impact on Ryanair?
