When HBO first took a punt at bringing the fantasy epic Game of Thrones to the small screen in 2008, nobody knew it would become the ratings behemoth it is today. Or that it would propel its cast, actors like Emilia Clarke and Peter Dinklage, to household name status.

Back in 2008, those actors signed a six-year deal, which will bring them up to the already green-lit sixth season. And now it seems a seventh is all but guaranteed.

And now the The Hollywood Reporter is saying the cast has renegotiated their contracts, having become something of a cultural phenomenon, and they're getting a big fat raise. Put it this way, if their raise was a character on the show it would only be able to say one word.

The magazine reports:

The principal Thrones actors, who were signed only through six seasons of the show, have completed an extensive renegotiation of their contracts that includes an option for season 7, The Hollywood Reporter has learned. In exchange for the option, HBO has ponied up huge raises for seasons 5, 6 and the potential season 7 that will make the cast members among the highest paid on cable TV.

While the official figures haven't been announced, the raises seemingly segregate the stars into bands of importance. Tier A, the most highly-paid actors, includes Emilia Clarke, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Peter Dinklage, Lena Headey, and Kit Harington. Tier B is made up of, among others, Natalie Dormer, Sophie Turner and Maisie Williams. Another lower tier contains other name parts, and presumably the person who has to mix up the fake blood.

Regardless of which tier HBO put your favourite on, at least it means another three years of anxiously anticipating the ninth episode and its inevitable swathes of fan-favourites' deaths.
