Less people are taking holidays abroad after the terrorist attacks carried out this year, new information from travel data company Forward Keys shows.

Looking at flight reservations, Turkey will be the country hardest hit for the rest of 2016, as bookings for September to December fall by 52% on the same period last year.

France is also suffering, with almost 20% less incoming flights booked for the rest of the year.

Forward Keys' data also shows that Spain is the preferred substitute when people are rethinking their holiday plans.

Looking at the first seven months of 2016, the available seats to Spain from the UK climbed 19% compared to the same period the year previous.

Germany's seats were up 12%, as were Portugal's, with low cost carriers accounting for the increased push on capacity.

According to Forward Keys, France suffered a year-on-year decline in bookings of 5.4% between August 2015 and July 2016, while Paris in particular was down 7.5%.

Bookings to Turkey were down 15% for the same period.

Forward Keys' Olivier Jager told the BBC:

"Travellers create a situation when they decide to visit alternative destinations.

"Operators and airlines decide to use their aircraft for other routes that allow them to fill their planes."
