A teenage boy is fighting for his life in hospital after he fell from his horse in Co Cork earlier this evening.

At around 6pm emergency services were called to the scene after a boy, who was with friends, fell from his horse and into a river in an area close to John O'Callaghan Park in Glanmire.

An extensive search of the river was carried out.

The boy was found and taken directly to Cork Univeristy Hospital where he remains in a critical condition.

An investigation is now underway.
