Tech Week kicks off this Saturday and brings with it a whole host of events. The initiative is organised by the social enterprise arm of the Irish Computer Society and is funded by Science Foundation Ireland.

More than 10,000 events will take place over the next 7 days to encourage students into the world of STEM. It is also hoped that the wider public will take part in events to gain a greater understanding of how technology impacts every aspect of our lives.

Speaking ahead of the weeklong festival, CEO of the Irish Computer Society Jim Friars said, “This is an opportunity to help prepare our young students with 21st-century skills and strong, creative minds. We can make learning fun and set students – our professionals and leaders of tomorrow – on a course to pursue careers in emerging STEM fields.”

Among the week’s keynote events will be the national Scratch Coding final in Limerick, the Bebras Computational Thinking Challenge in Maynooth and The Tech Week Sessions happening as part of Feile na Bealtaine in Dingle on Friday, April 28th. In addition to these keynote events, academic institutions and businesses will host events nationwide, and hundreds of schools across every county in Ireland will take part.
