TV3 is planning to launch a new 24-hour news channel as part of an expansion of their services.

The Sunday Business Post reports that the commercial broadcaster is considering introducing several new channels - including a 24-hour news service, children's channel and sport.

It is believed the news channel would be rolling as opposed to constant live news, similar to RTE's News Now channel.

Last July, Virgin Media Ireland bought TV3 for €80 million. The new services would therefore likely be available on the Virgin Media Network - which could potentially see the channels being made available outside Ireland.

Virgin Media named Pat Kiely as the new managing director of TV3 earlier this month.

Mr Kiely has worked at TV3 since its launch.

As well as its main channel, TV3 also currently runs entertainment channel 3e, as well as +1 and HD services.
