TV3 and the Irish Daily Mail have apologised to former Minister Phil Hogan for 'untrue and damaging' publications, relating to comments on The Vincent Browne Show in 2013 and articles published by the Mail in 2012.

The former Minister launched legal proceedings after media coverage which alleged that he made representations to Kilkenny County Council asking them not to house a traveller family in a particular area.

They alleged that Mr Hogan had engaged in racist behaviour and was prejudiced against the travelling community.

Both TV3 and the Irish Daily Mail accepted the publications were defamatory and apologised to the former Environment Minister.

They told the High Court the publications were untrue, unwarranted and misleading.

In a statement, Phil Hogan said he was pleased to be vindicated by today's apologies.

He said he hopes he can continue in his role as EU Commissioner without further wrongful and damaging media comment.

TV3 and the Daily Mail have agreed to pay costs and undisclosed damages to Mr Hogan.
