A South African judge has rejected a motion for Oscar Pistorius's prison sentence to be extended.

State prosecutors were arguing his six-year jail term for the murder of his girlfriend was too lenient.

The athlete was not in court today.

Pistorius shot Reeva Steenkamp at his home in 2013.

Sky News correspondent Alex Crawford was in court in Johannesburg today, and said the defence argued that "enough is enough" after several trials.

The disgraced Paralympian could have faced a life sentence after the Supreme Court of Appeal overturned his manslaughter conviction and found him guilty of murder.

However, the sentence handed down last month was considerably less than the minimum jail term of 15 years for murder under South African law.

Pistorius could be eligible for parole in three years.

The athlete has never denied shooting and killing Ms Steenkamp, a law graduate, at his home in Pretoria on Valentine Day's morning 2013.

But he has always insisted he mistook her for an intruder when he fired four Black Talon bullets through the toilet door.
