Former National Security Agency (NSA) employee Edward Snowden has been described as "a serial exaggerator and fabricator" according to a House intelligence committee report.

Time have reported that all members of the committee have sent a bipartisan letter to President Obama urging him not to grant Snowdon a presidential pardon.

In 2013, Snowden leaked top secret information about NSA surveillance activities after fleeing to Hong Kong and meeting with journalists from the Guardian newspaper.

Snowden ended up stranded at Moscow's international airport after his passport was annulled by the US government when trying to fly to South America. Russian authorities denied US requests to extradite him and he was granted a three-year residency visa in August 2014.

He has been recently attempting to get President Obama to grant him a pardon before he leaves office this November.

In an interview on Thursday for C-SPAN’s Newsmakers, Californian Congressman Adam Schiff, the ranking Democrat on the House intelligence committee, said: “The majority of what he took has to do with military secrets and defense secrets.

"I think that’s very much at odds with the narrative that he wants to tell that he is a whistleblower,” he added.
