Snapchat is increasingly popular here in Ireland. Facebook is currently filled with images of our friends posing with the dog-ear filter. The Internet is a strange place. But the people love it, so obviously the company is going to try and capitalise on it!
CNET has reported that Snapchat has assembled a team of wearable experts to develop a pair of smart-glasses. Some of the recent hires at Snapchat include: Mark Dixon, an ex-Microsoft recruiter who's worked on the HoloLens, Eitan Pilipski, now an engineering director at Snapchat, previously worked at Qualcomm's Vuforia. They’ve also hired Lauryn Morris, an eye-wear designer who's designed frames for Michael Kors, Zac Posen and Innovega, an eye-wear startup that created the iOptik mixed-reality glasses.
If this goes ahead it would be the first hardware product from the company who has around 100 million daily users and is valued at $16 billion.
Snapchat has been known for some interesting moves in the past, attempting to revamp marketing through "Stories" and change journalism with "Discover".
