Two people have died and 20 others have been injured after a building collapsed in the Israeli city of Tel Aviv.

Police say four others are missing and are thought to be trapped under the debris. 

Police spokeswoman Luba Samri said communication had been established with two of those trapped.  

A fire official, Lior Teherani, told Channel 10 TV that it began when an underground multi-level car park that was under construction collapsed. 

That movement caused a crane to fall down, taking more of the building with it. 

The Israeli military has dispatched search and rescue forces to assist the emergency services. 

The building, on a site in Ramat Hachayal, was under construction at the time. 

The commercial area in northern Tel Aviv comprises high-tech businesses, restaurants and a hospital.
