Gardaí have renewed their appeal for information on the fifth anniversary of a fatal hit-and-run collision in Monaghan.
Fintan Treanor (20) was killed on a quiet country road in Lemgare, Clontibret, while walking home in the early hours of June 26th, 2011.
He had been returning from a night out in Castleblaney when he was struck by a car.
The driver involved has never been identified, despite repeated calls for information.
The garda appeals have centred on an Audi A4 1995 to 2001 model, missing its front lower air-vent grille.
“Perhaps now after five years, some person knows a person who disposed of an Audi A4 around that time,” gardaí said.
“In five years, loyalties, friendships and relationships change and perhaps someone that felt unable to come forward before is now in a position to provide the investigation team with the vital information that would locate the driver.”
Detective inspector James O'Leary explains:
An appeal by Crimestoppers, in which a reward may be offered for information, will feature on a Crimecall programme due to be broadcast tomorrow.
Anyone with information has been asked to contact Monaghan garda station on 04 777 200 or the garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.
